School Profile

A Minority Educational Institution Open to All

St Ann’s High School, Nelamangala, Bengaluru, was started by the Sisters of St Ann’s of Providence and is a minority educational institution under Article 30(1) of the Constitution of India. The congregation traces its foundation to Marquis Carlo Tancredi of Barolo and Marchioness Giulia Colbert of Italy.

In Karnataka, the institution functions under the St. Ann Educational Society (R). While fulfilling its objectives as a Christian minority institution, the school is open to all irrespective of religion, caste and creed. In keeping with the charism of its founders and co-founder Blessed Mother Enrichetta Dominici, it gives special concern to disadvantaged and marginalised sections of society through education.

Prospectus

A Tradition of Education and Social Service

The congregation of the Sisters of St. Ann was founded in India in 1871. For more than 150 years, the Sisters have served in education, health and social work across several Indian states.

St Ann’s High School was established at Nelamangala in 1999 to provide education and Christian formation for children and young people from needy families, without neglecting children from other denominations.

Admission Guidelines

Begin the Admission Process

St Ann’s High School is a religious minority institution. First preference is given to Catholic applicants, and every candidate must be introduced in person by a parent or guardian.

Parents or guardians are responsible for the student’s conduct, application to studies and payment of fees.

Fee Regulations

Important Fee Information

Fees once paid are neither refundable nor transferable.
A student leaving during the academic year is required to pay the full year’s fees.
The fee is collected in one instalment for the academic year, subject to permissions stated by the school.
The fee structure may be revised from time to time to meet additional institutional expenses.
Students may not answer tests unless fees are paid up to date.
No certificate will be issued while fees remain unpaid.
The diary states a late fee of Rs. 10 per day after the 10th of the applicable month.

Student Conduct

General Regulations for Students

Attendance, Punctuality and Leave

Students must arrive before the prescribed reporting time, prepare for class and attend the school assembly.
Late arrival without a satisfactory explanation may result in loss of attendance for the morning session.
Leave must be applied for in advance with a specific reason. Uninformed absence is not permitted.
After an absence, a parent or guardian must provide the required leave or explanation note.
Absence for more than three days must be brought to the notice of the Headmistress.
Students must not leave school before time. In an emergency, a parent or guardian must meet the Headmistress personally.
Missing reopening day, tests or examinations is treated seriously. Medical evidence may be required for illness.
Students using public transport should leave home early enough to reach school on time.

Discipline, Respect and School Property

Students must greet teachers and remain standing until asked to sit.
Running, playing or shouting inside the school building is not allowed.
Students may not enter another classroom without permission.
Teaching and non-teaching staff must be treated with respect.
Irregular attendance, insubordination, habitual inattention and serious misconduct may lead to disciplinary action or dismissal.
Students are responsible for taking care of the school, its walls, furniture, classrooms, library books and gardens.
Damage to school property must be repaired or paid for by those responsible; the diary states a fine of Rs. 500 for damage to walls or furniture.
Cheating, stealing, obscenity and other serious misconduct are punishable.
Students must not participate in political rallies.

Uniform, Belongings and Communication

The prescribed school uniform must be worn neatly and cleanly on all specified days.
House or physical-training uniform and the prescribed footwear must be worn on the notified days.
Books, magazines, cameras, mobile phones and similar articles may not be brought without permission.
Students must carry the school diary/calendar on every working day.
Students should speak in English within the school premises.
Students must safeguard their own books, money, clothing and other belongings; the school is not responsible for loss.
Lending, borrowing, exchanging or selling articles among students is prohibited.
Visitors, parents and guardians may not communicate with students during class hours without written permission.

Tests, Report Cards, Activities and Competitions

Monthly tests and examinations are obligatory. Re-tests are generally not given for absence.
Progress records and report cards must be signed by parents and returned within the stated time.
Attendance in Value Education classes and examinations is compulsory.
Students must not join outside clubs or teams that interfere with studies without permission.
Games and physical training are compulsory unless a doctor’s certificate is produced.
Competitors should submit their names to the class teacher one week before the competition and should not withdraw after confirmation.
Prayer songs and film songs are not accepted for Eastern and Western singing competitions.
Fancy dress or dance entries depicting drunkards, lunatics, fire or fireworks will be disqualified.
The diary encourages every student to participate in three school competitions to develop self-expression, confidence, discipline, endurance and decision-making.

Support Daily Formation

Encourage regularity, discipline, daily study and active participation in school activities.
Read messages, progress reports and other documents carefully before signing.
Ensure that children come to school on time and bring the required books and diary.
A student requires at least 75% attendance for promotion and regular participation in craft, fine arts, physical training, games and co-curricular activities.
School management discourages private tuition and encourages parents to spend meaningful daily time monitoring their child’s studies.

Meeting the School

Follow the Office Procedure

Meet the Headmistress or teachers in person when attendance or progress concerns are raised.
Take a prior appointment to meet a teacher.
Report to the school office first and obtain permission before meeting teachers during working hours.
Do not enter classrooms or meet other students within the school premises without permission.
Class teachers may be met after school during the time stated by the school.

Safety and Personal Items

Protect the Child and Belongings

Do not send pocket money, costly ornaments or unnecessary personal items.
Students are not permitted to bring mobile phones on working days.
Keep the school informed immediately of changes to address and telephone number.
First aid will be provided after injury and parents will be informed without delay.
Private tuition should be considered only after consultation with and consent from the Headmistress.

Participation and Communication

Stay Involved

Attend parent-teacher meetings at least once a term or as often as possible.
Written parental permission is required for Scouts, Guides, Cubs, Bulbuls and related activities.
Attendance at regular meetings, hikes and camps may be compulsory for enrolled members.
School-calendar activity and examination dates may be tentative and subject to official communication.
Contact the office during school hours for emergencies.

Grooming and Personal Appearance

Neatness, Safety and Simplicity

Girls’ hair should be neatly cross-plaited and tied with black ribbons; fancy clips and rubber bands are not permitted.
Ornaments should not be worn in school.
Specific fashionable haircuts shown as prohibited in the school diary are not allowed.
Uniforms must be clean, complete and worn according to the day’s instructions.
